Your new role
This position offers an exciting opportunity to drive excellence in teaching and research in Software Engineering. You will play a key role in shaping curriculum initiatives, advancing research, and contributing to governance within the school and the broader university.

As part of the growing Software Engineering team in the School of EECMS, you will:

• Deliver high-quality, student-centred teaching, including Software Engineering units/courses at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
• Supervise student research projects, fostering critical thinking and innovation.
• Contribute to research activities by collaborating on impactful projects and supporting research teams.
• Foster a strong research culture by mentoring undergraduate and postgraduate students.
• Engage with global campuses and industry partners to strengthen international collaborations and research networks.

This role is ideal for an early-career academic looking to make a meaningful contribution to Software Engineering.

About your new team - School of EECMS
Formed in 2017, EECMS unites Curtin’s core expertise in electrical engineering, computing, physics, mathematics, and statistics to better understand and advance our data-driven world. As part of Curtin’s Faculty of Science and Engineering, EECMS is one of the university’s largest schools, with a rapidly expanding teaching and research portfolio. The school is at the forefront of emerging fields, including Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Software Engineering, Quantum Technologies, Energy Informatics, and Immersive Technologies. Our teaching programs are delivered across Curtin’s global campuses.

Your responsibilities will include:

Teaching

• Deliver high-quality undergraduate and postgraduate teaching.
• Develop engaging course content and contribute to curriculum innovation.
• Conduct tutorials, practicals, workshops, and student field excursions.
• Assess and provide feedback on student work.
• Supervise honours and postgraduate coursework students.
• Act as a unit coordinator and contribute to teaching and learning grant submissions.
• Stay up to date with developments in the discipline.
• Undertake relevant teaching-related administrative tasks.

Research

• Undertake nationally competitive and high-quality research in the school.
• Participate in and act as co or chief investigator in applications for competitive funding.
• Disseminate research findings through seminars, workshops and conferences.
• Publish/exhibit in high quality refereed journals/outlets in manner consistent with disciplinary practice.
• Provide effective supervision for honours, research masters, and research doctoral students.
• Aspire to be recognised nationally for research in the field of software engineering.
• Undertake administrative functions associated with research activities.

Service and Leadership

• Contribute to academic service, collegiality and engagement, including efficient management of internal service roles.
• Significantly contribute to external activities relevant to the discipline/profession and community engagement.
• Contribute to the development of a collegial and supportive working environment. Model a high standard of professional behaviour consistent with the University Code of Conduct and Vision, Mission and Values

Who we are looking for - Essential Criteria:

Qualifications:

• A doctoral degree in Software Engineering and related fields like Computer Science and Information Technology.

Knowledge, Experience, and Skills:

1. Demonstrated teaching experience at higher education level, especially in Software Engineering related areas, as well as in the general computer science/information technology fields.
2. Proven ability to develop and deliver engaging, student-centred learning experiences at undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
3. A strong understanding of pedagogical theory and contemporary educational practice.
4. Proven research excellence in Software Engineering (or related fields), with active contributions to advancing the field, demonstrated through a strong track record such as high-impact publications in Q1 journals.
5. Demonstrated communication and interpersonal skills with a commitment to the development of a collegial and supportive working environment and the ability to interact with students and staff with cross cultural sensitivity.
6. Demonstrated commitment to applying relevant and applicable policies, procedures and legislation in the day-to-day performance of the functions of this position.

• You will require current work rights in Australia that match the tenure of the role. We will also consider international candidates who are eligible for a relevant visa. Visa and relocation support may be considered.
